Eheim Aquastyle 9 - Too thin to drill?

I've drilled 10 gallon tanks that thin. LOTS of water, and a cordless drill with the clutch set at 1 worked for me. (The clutch will disengage the bit at the least bit of binding, preventing a crack.)

Are you concerned about the drill pressing too hard against the glass?

Drilling the glass doesn't put much strain on it since it grinds through the glass instead of cutting into it. Making holes doesn't take any force from the user. I just let some of the weight of the drill do the work, controlling the amount of weight with my hands. Don't press into the glass, and you'll be fine.

No. From what I remember thinner glass doesn't drill as easy as its more fragile.

I know what you're doing! LOL!

3/16" is okay, I have drilled 1/4" glass no problem. The concern is mostly after drilling, as pumbing can exert some torsion on the glass. Just be sure to support the pipes.

I drilled a 2.5 gallon not long ago that glass is super thin, you just gotta put almost zero pressure on it and go slow.
