Eheim Canister 2250 for a 150g reef

Hey guys, im plannin a 150g reef once my 130g planted tank is sold. Im plannin to jus keep softies and lps. Maybe be some hard sps like monti and stylo. I know its said its a nitrate factory etc etc.. but iv seen many successful tanks with only a canister. And im really lookibg for a low maintanance and low bioload but going crazy on softies and few lps for colour and beauty. Any1 currenlty using this method?

The canister will hold sponges, filter wool, purigen, carbon and phosguard. And monthly cleaning and media change with water change a little more than in the canister bucket.

As for supplements im plannin on seachem reef plus, seachem adv calcium and seachem reef builder dosed manually OR kalk in ato, diy mag or kent mag and reef plus.

Iv been into this hobby for long but never tried this. The idea came watching some beautiful mixed reef with a canister.

I had a Hydor canister on a 46G system with SPS and it did awesome. As far as carbon and GFO (if you're considering this) buy a small reactor. A canister doesn't create enough pressure to force the water through the media and its a total waste. I ran a BRS Mini reactor (mix of GFO and Carbon) in addition to my canister with amazing results. Also, don't waste money on felt padding from fish stores, buy some from joanns fabrics or AC Moore, or something similar. Make sure its FELT, not wool or rayon as this stuff falls apart in water. Here is the recommended sintered glass filter media.

I guess if water passes through media it shud work. Dont u think? Also phosguard doesnt clog/clump like gfo.

I've never tried that route, but there are a plethora of ways to go about it. As long as water is being forced through the media, in theory yea it should work, it comes down to how efficient it is. I never had any issue with GFO clumping when i mixed it with carbon, it honestly worked wonders. The biggest thing with canisters is trapping the filth in your pads in the bottom and utilizing the remaining trays for filter media. If that filter media gets clogged up, it won't promote bacterial growth and is essentially useless. The pads in the bottom basically work like filter socks in a sump. I had mine tuned in nicely, only cleaned it twice a month. When you do clean them, do NOT clean your filter media, just rinse the pads in hot water, rinse the canister and thats that. Rinsing the media will just kill the bacteria and that defeats the whole purpose.

Yup, thts the reason im plannin to go for the biggest of filter so i can clean once a month. In my country, gfo is not available so gona use phosguard. Is for biological filteration, im plannin to depend more on the liverock and sand, rather than canister. Yes ill add some media and will rinse them with tank water, basically the same water in the canister bucket, will change filter media, rinse purigen, clean the pads. I know tht ill be loosing a lot of pods, so im plannin to find a way to save them in an extra tank tht ill keep jus for pods breeding but thts jus if its possible, or will dump them with the water. I prefer canister coz i can get some space for a hospital/qt tank and ato reservoir.

Sorry i replied in short and u got confused. Actually i was asking whats better between fluval fx6 and eheim 2262. (I jus saw online 2262 is best in the eheim series)

I did, they have written u need extra pump. They pumps they give are only for recirculation

I'm not sure what you're looking at but you definitely do not need an extra pump. This thing is 100% plug and play.
