I am using a eheim 125w heater. It is rated for 40 to 53 gallons. I have it on a 34 gallon tank with a sump. There is 40 gallons of water total. I did the calibration on it. I have it set to 79 and it is only at 76.3 after about 2 days. I am thinking of adding another heater or maybe another brand of heater. I have a neo-therm heater on my 25 cube and it holds temp.

A lot of times heaters are not calibrated too good. Just keep turning it up until you hit the right temperature.

Also I would recommend a temp controller. You can get inexpensive ones amazon.

I have a apex jr. I use it for a backup safety to turn it off. But, would like to use the heaters controller to runner. Really not wanting to listen to the apex kick on and off.
i bought the eheim because you can calibrate it. Seems it can't even keep up on heating the water. So I may just get another Neo-therm heater it seems to work a lot better.

from what I can tell it stays on. I just don't want to keep cranking it up to get to temp. I did the calibration. Now the red ring is maxed out and can't move it to 76.

I am running 2 150w Jager's On a 75 gallon with about 20 gallons in the sump and it took a good two days to get from 63* to 76* but once it got there it was fine.

I am trying to go from 76 to 78 and it will not move up over 2 days. i have it set at 80.

I asked about whether it was cycling on/off because in some situations if the flow through the sump is low enough the heater will get the sump water up to temperature and shut off but it isn't moved out fast enough to maintain the tank temp. If it's actually staying on then you just need a second heater which is the best way anyways. Or cover the tank or sump to reduce evaporation which conserves heat because the warmest highest energy water is what evaporates

Room temp is 70 to 72.

I have the heater in the sump. Looks like i will get a second heater.
