So, looks like the two 300w Eheim Heaters we have can't be fully submersed in our sump because they're too long. Two questions... Can any part of those heaters be run dry? If not, I need some recommendations for 200W+ heaters that are less than 14" long. Thanks in advance for your help!

BRS titanium heaters. I've got the 300s and they're 10.25" long.

I've been seeing a couple of threads about the heaters failing miserably, so I'm a little hesitant with buying theirs. Also, they never have any in stock. lol

Can't say I've come across any of those threads nor would I share the same experience. I have 2 300w heating elements (no brs controller) controlled by reef pi for several months now, they're running like champs.

If you stand them up, how much is out of the water? I believe there is a spot on the heaters that say “minimum water level”

We have our heaters in the overflow due to the length.

I'll keep them in mind. Thanks!

Get the finnex titanium heaters like already suggested. The 200w is 10.75" and the 300w is only 12". Keep the eheim for emergencies to throw in the DT in case the finnex or return pump fails

I ditched my eheims and do this now.

I made the mistake of purchasing two eheim heaters that I thought would fit, but were too big. I got two titanium heaters and have the eheims in their boxes tucked away in case of emergencies. You can never be too prepared in this hobby
