Eheim Jager 150W won’t cut off

So this probably has to do with callibration. but my current heater broke so I got the Jager cause I heard it’s a great one. I put it in the tank and set it for 78° but it keeps trying to heat over that... I turned the temperature down a few degrees but it still won’t cut off. How does the calibration work? I’m guessing that’s got something to do with it

I'm not sure about how to calibrate it, I'm a little old school so I'm used to just not trusting heaters at all. I reccomend plugging it into a controller like the inkbird which is pretty cheap for how reliable it is.

I started the hobby at 17 so I hear that! The inkbirds with heating and cooling plugs are about $30, you find them on the selling forum often too. I would highly reccomend saving up for it if you can or trading for it. It's a really good deal of an insurance policy and if you ever have heating issues due to weather you can make use of the cooling outlet to run a fan on the tank.

At best an Eheim Jager has a 2 degree swing meaning setting it at 78 it won't turn off till 79 and won't turn back on till 77. In reality the swing is likely worse than that. The other thing is 78 on the adjustment ring is not guaranteed to correspond to 78 degrees and that's why you calibrate but having them the same is just to satisfy someone's OCD. In the meantime, when your aquarium hits 79, slowly turn the heater down until the light clicks off. This will put you in the ballpark, just ignore what the temp ring says. Keep an eye on it to see when the heater clicks back on and then you will know your on temp and 2 degrees up will be your off temp.

Does your heater have a red ring on top of the heater? If so, unplug the heater, turn the red ring to point at the actual temp of your water and then set it to where you want it turning the blue top. Then plug it back in

Put it in a bucket with some water and an airstone or small pump and let it sit for about 6-8 hours. Then turn the red pointer to the actual temp the water is at. You can now adjust the blue dial to the red pointer at the temp you want to maintain.

That is so cool! I’ve never heard of those but now I want one haha I’m gonna try and get an RODI system then I’ll get one of those
