So basing my choice off of watts per gallon I calculate I need roughly 250 total watts of heater. I am reading the specifications on the eheim Jager and it shows my needs only being 150 watts. I would love getting the smaller heater's due to lack of space in my sump but am not sure it will be sufficient to heat it. I am running a 65 gallon display with a 20 gallon sump. Household temperature year round runs about 68-72.
So should I be sticking with the 250 total watts or will 150 be sufficient?

I have a 150 on 60 gallons of water and it barely keeps up with our house averaging 67-68 in the winter.

I have a 150 on my 40b with a 10g sump I notice it took some time to get to temp with house at 70. If I had anything bigger I would have gone with a larger heater the 40 is the limit I think for the 150w
i would probably go with the 200w if I were you

I agree. If you can afford it, two smaller wattage heaters are a better idea, especially if you are not going to have a heater controller to double check them.

Seems like the INKbird is not reliable from reviews. Do you recommend a controller to look into?

Ranco is as good as it gets.

If you can get REALLY lucky and find an old Medusa on a local board or Craigslist, then that would be great too. These are getting hard to find, but are nearly bulletproof too.

On my 40gal with a 10gal sump I use two heaters. Both Jagers placed horizontally in the sump. I use a 150watt main and a 100watt as a backup or supplement. The 150watt is set for 77.0 f. - 77.4 f. And the 100watt is set to come on at 76.8 f. The only time I see the backup come on is during water changes as I don’t heat my water change water, it usually stays about 75 f. with the circulation pump running alone in a 5 gallon jug.

For your situation I’d use 2 150watt heaters and run one slightly lower if the main one can not keep up. With the way heaters are built now days, I would not run just one.

Thanks for the replies. I have 2, 125 watt heaters for a total of 250 watts. I was just making sure the Eheim's weren't some sort of super power or something basing off there ratings on the box. I should be fine and dandy with the 2, 125's.
Thanks all.
