Eienna's 50g Reef

The consensus seems to be yes, I can. :D Some sites say 50g for Bartlett's, and others say 70 - and if I'm correct my tank is as long as your average 70, so I'm good. YAY!!

First things first, though. I gotta get in some half-decent filtration before I add any other fish.

Anthias are best kept in groups. They are a schooling fish

In certain cases that's true. Some pseudanthiines are so conspecific-aggressive that you can only keep singles unless the tank is massive.

I do believe the Bartlett is one of the better schoolers, but it is possible to keep a single according to my research, at least as long as its tankmates are not aggressive. Seeing as how I'm trying for a nonaggressive setup anyway, I don't really see a problem.

Thanks for the advice, though. :3

Eeep. Fishies scared me tonight. I got up and checked on them and they were looking kind of shocky and acting odd, hanging at the surface and seeming...out of it.

I've seen it before...I used a full dose of waste-away tonight (I'd been using half doses) and apparently I didn't have enough aeration to support it. I moved the powerheads up so the flows break the surface real good, and added an airstone for a few minutes. Just to be sure, I checked ammonia and nitrite: clean zeros. I stayed with them until they were acting normally again, then pulled the airstone out. The powerheads are still agitating the surface real good so hopefully everything will be fine. I'll stick to half doses from now on.

I have some good news, though. The diplo seems to be adding a new head. It's small right now but I can see it. :D

I'd encourage you to do more research than just checking live aquaria, blue zoo, and aquacon.

Okay...rereading my sources and a few others...I may still be out if luck on the anthias. ;-; Drat.

Just not the most aquarium-friendly fish in the sea...

I'm late to hop in, but I am following like a true devotee. I'm loving the tank, I wish I could upgrade to larger size tank!

Cool! Nice to have you! :D

Speaking of upgrading, I'm considering turning my 125 FW into a reef...but I'm scared to do it because of operating costs @-@

If you stock is slowly ("Nothing good happens fast...") then you simply stop adding new critters to it when costs have gotten to the max. level you want to sustain. Easy-peasy! :)

Hi.....following along now (haven't read all the posts yet though)
sorry about the anthias.........Have you thought about a royal gramma?

My landlord's wife Shelly wants a royal gramma. I got one for her but due to a heater accident in QT we lost it T.T Such a gorgeous, healthy fish, too. We're planning to try again.

Feeling heartsore right now...
I'm giving up my freshwater fish. I can only support one tank, and my mom can't keep caring for them, so I'm moving my reef to the 125g and...and...and....that means my babies have to go. TT.TT I'm taking them to a good LFS in the morning if they have room...unless someone here wants them? I can't ship...

Dreams vs loyalty....I get hung up on that little conundrum every time.

My sweet Daddy is ordering me a present ♡♡♡ it's an hob filter. Not really what I want long-term, but it'll do for the time being. THANK YOU DADDY!!!!

I saw a gorgeous little royal gramma at the fish store today...anyone care to lend a little cash so I can get it? XD

Traded a couple FW fish for some frozen fish food and some PhosGuard...one was my green phantom pleco that hides so much we never see him anyway, and the other was the least favorite of my two angels. They were chewing each other's fins all up. It's really too bad I couldn't trade them for the gorgeous royal gramma, but that store doesn't carry FW fish.

Well...it seems my husband has left me...and unfortunately, I am the one getting kicked out....and I found this out far too late to bring my tank with me right away. They're bug-bombing tomorrow. I'm not going to ask if it can get any worse...I just pray my ex is at least kind enough to securely seal the tank before they do it. TT-TT
