Hello. I am waiting on an electric flame scallop to be sent to me, and I know about target feeding with phytoplankton. I was curious what else would be a good diet for it. thanks.

I think they can also consume things like reef energy and aquavitro fuel and other dissolved organics products. I dose phyto and reef energy as well as brightwell amino omgea hufa daily.

I know reef roids are more for corals, but I had someone tell me his scallop loves them.

I don't think they can eat reef roids. Those are more the size of zooplankton which is much larger than the food scallops eat typically from ky understanding

I don't know. Tha's just what I was told. I was also told to mix up the substrate and let them feast on the debris that came up with that, but I don't believe that's a good idea for many reasons. That individual also was insistent that corals use ammonia for growth, which is also not true. I'll just stick with phytoplankton which I have a lot of.

I fed phyto before. I know they eat it, I was just just curious about if they will eat other stuff, or should I just stick with phyto is my main point.

It isn't about what you fed before or know what they eat. You are asking what else would be which leads me to belive otherwise. These are one animals that shouldn't be sold ala grocery store / LFS offering. It should be special order even if that. Giving the proper care they are best left to dedicated species tanks, expert hobbyists, or best yet left in the wild.

I guess I'm judging but this is one of those animals that shouldn't be collected or readily available. In my opinion.

Can you cancel the order?

In 15yrs, 4 of which worked in a coral shop, I haven't seen a flame scallop survive in captivity past 90 days.

100% irresponsible novelty

I was merely looking for a supplement suggestion. My order hasn't even been processed yet because I'm waiting on a pistol shrimp and some blue neon gobies to become available, I can modify the order before it is actually sent.

Flame scallops are herbivorous and exclusively eat only phytoplankton. During the feeding they will sift and sort through the phytoplankton with their palps to determine what is acceptable for intake. because they are filter feeders, make sure to feed them plenty of it. If you can, get it in the bottles and also get a little squirter and get right up next to them for direct feeding. Biggest downfall is owners who reduce amount of feedings and get out of the habit of frequent fweedings, only feeding them a couple of times a week. If you keepup with the feeding routine, they will do great in your tank.

This is what I've always read. That and the amount of food required for long term care outside a species tank makes for cloudy/dirty water. To complicate things they also move to areas the hobbyist can no longer see :D

@Drummingbaker2010 not knocking you. Apologies if it may seem that way. Only wish you, and the animal, the utmost success.

I understand. I wish myself and it luck too. I'll update if I think I've reached a benchmark point. LOL
