I have an electrical reef related question: for those who are in the know,
I'm looking to clean up my rats nest of of cables and would like to mount the reef tanks electrical system on the opposing wall of the aquarium. My question is, how does one safely run power cords though a wall without violating every electrical code known to man?

I was gonna say conduit but then I thought.. what is the difference between you running some wires straight though presumably 4” of wall and the 14/2 stapled throughout the inside of most of your walls already?
I personally might add some grommets where I passed through to make it look pretty.

Are you talking about running wires between interior walls?

It sounds like you want to run the power cord for your pump through the wall. There isn't really anything dangerous about this scenario. You just poke a hole and push it through. What are your safety concerns? Obviously when you make the hole in the wall you don't want to hit a hot wire. They make testers you can slide down your wall to find where the hot wires are.

The things linked in the post here are just for cosmetics.

It sounds like you have the tank on an interior wall. And then you want the equipment to be in the same place on the other side of the wall in the adjacent room. Is this the case?

Not sure what would be unsafe about it. I much prefer this than having everything located inside my stand next to my sump.

We are used to doing plumbing but go look at the electrical conduits section of Home Depot. All kinds of stuff to do about anything you want.

You're probably over thinking it then. Most residential construction uses wood studs and the majority of the wall is hollow in 16" sections. Get a stud finder from the hardware store that detects hot wiring. Use it to find two studs - make sure no hot wires are where you want to cut - then turn off the breakers for the wiring in the wall - and then cut your hole between the two studs. Then put one of those tubes to make it look nice. Then push your plugs through
