Had a small hang on skimmer I finally decided to use. Went to Petco and picked up a $20 power head, set it up, was getting nice bubbles then put my hand in the water and much to my surprise it hurt. Unplug n repeat, no pain. So ****** right now. No fish or human died. I will test all future power head purchases in a bucket. I'm going to rip Petco a new one in the AM.

i have had several old mj powerheads in the past do me same way actually knock the **** outta ya,after that i bought a ground probe does wonders,i thnk everyone with saltwater should consider one

Ecotech mp40 it don't bite.

I've had this happen with a UV sterilizer and heaters are also notorious for leaking voltage in tanks.

I like Tunzes a lot better than ecotech. JMHO :)

Every tank should have a grounding probe. Also GFI for pumps or anything in the water do not find out the hard way why i say this.

A grounding probe is still running voltage through your tank.

Just replace the faulty equipment.

As the hair rises on the back of my neck......here we go again. This has been a point of contention forever. I'm not going to start the argument all over again, but google "current" and "voltage." With a probe, you have current....without it, no current.....just voltage. Forget about the probe and take the tingle as a sign to find the faulty equipment that needs to be replaced.

I think what the mp40 people are saying is that the mp40 can not induce a voltage because all electrical components are outside of the tank.

+1, and 1 replaced 4 pumps in my tank so it decluttered, lowered risks, and since it was getting time to replace those 4 anyway the price wasn't that bad. ;) Sure beats shocking thousands of dollars of acros to save a buck!

Ground probe!?!? I've been probing the ground for ever and nothing helped me here:

It was the middle of last February in my basement laboratory. I had a 55 gallon aquarium with a pond pump full of salt water. The hose was rigged into whatever I was trying to build and shot off the device, spraying me in the face.

Water alone is bad when unexpected, saltwater...even worse. Saltwater plus electricity was what I received to the mug. The pump was later discovered to be made of highly corrosive material that quickly caused a high voltage leak.

It was like getting smacked in the face by a cold giant hand and instantly feeling the pins and needles of sitting on your foot for too long...in your face.

I felt like Slimer when the Ghost Busters sucked him up into their ghost trap.
