Today, about 6 am I saw my little cleaner shrimp molting for the second time in my tank. Growing and Healthy!

Four hours later, when I passed by the tank, I came across this.

"Its just the shell."

It isn't!
Can someone explain me how?

They are at their most fragile when they molt. Maybe he got caught at the worst moment? Although a molting shrimp is a healthy shrimp...
Yeah, really unfortunate, I loved that little guy! Just wanna know if I can try it again and a explanation, since he was growing and healthy. Does elegance coral has the power to paralyze or something like that?

Sometimes shrimp have issues with molting and they basically can't get it off properly or hurt themselves trying to get it off. I'd guess he was having issues with the molt and got stuck in the elegance when it happened and became a snack. Ever test for iodine? Proper iodine helps them molt and could be a deficiency problem. Hard to pinpoint this kind of thing though.

Thanks.. I dont have any idea of my iodine, but I guess its on a nice level, Every week, religiously, I do a water change with red sea coral pro salt, that has iodine and I daily dose all for reef from tropic marin that also has it.

I've seen a few posts here of people losing fish to elegance corals, I bet the shrimp just got a little too close to a hungry coral

Really unfortunate, it was one of my favorites in that tank, should I give up on having another one?

I wouldn't be too worried about it, it could've happened to anything in the tank really. How long did you have the cleaner shrimp?

I once saw a micromussa eat a hermit crab and then spit out the shell. This was a few years ago shortly after I started the hobby.

I think it was just bad luck for the shrimp. No reason not to get another one. My elegance just ate a small bubble tip anemone that had detached from the rock it was on and by chance floated into the elegance.
