thinking of picking up an elegance, very new to hobby and was wondering if this coral is suitable for beginners? my tank is about 4 months old and I have 2 hammers, a Duncan, and some zoas that all seem to be doing well in my tank. only lose ive had so far was an acan, no idea why it died, just starting turning brown :(

Torches are pretty hardy, find a lower flow spot for it and dont be freaked out if it takes some time to fully open

I know you didn't ask specifically but my first stoney coral was a duncan. I like them because they're hardy, the can survive on photosynthesis AND they can be fed. I've found them to be easier then euphyllia species in my systems.

I love my Duncan! :)

I love my Duncan! :)

Geez, I suppose I could have re-read your original message and seen that. Sorry about that. In that case, I like an elegance coral over acans. My main tank is a death warrant for acans. I have no idea why but I've killed quite a few of them in my day and everything else seems to grow really well. your tank does seem a little young but elegance are pretty hardy in my experience. Give it another few weeks and then start considering it. I guess the main point I'm trying to make is acans can be tricky. I've never been able to keep them alive in 1 of my 3 tanks. Everywhere else they do great.

I think they are easier than Duncan’s. If your water quality is good I’d say you would be fine. Decent light on the bottom of the tank.
Most important is not too much flow. Also you can feed them directly but invertebrates and fish often steal it from them.
