Yesterday my elegance looked like this. It closed up last night as per usual and receded back into its base but hasn't opened up again this morning. All my parameters are solid and nothing out of the ordinary. Any ideas? Do elegance corals just throw a wobbly every so often or is it dying? Can I identify the root cause? Please help meh!

Welcome to R2R.
From the pics, it may be a little irritated but looks fine for the most part. If it is new to the tank, it will take time to adjust. Not the easiest coral to care for but if you can keep it happy, it will grow nicely. Mine is about 10” across and I keep it on the sand with med flow and low to med light.

Just make sure it’s not overwhelmed by anything and nothing is picking at it.

my guess from looking at pictures is that at least part of your problem is a immature tank.. When you say your parameters are solid just what does that mean? Providing a complete list of actual numbers would be helpful.

0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrites, 5-10ppm of Nitrate. Phosphate near 0, kH of 8. PH is at 8.3. Solid meaning they rarely vary. Calcium should be fine as weekly water changes are still a normal occurrence. Tank has been running for about 4 months. Have a Xenia and Hammer that are both doing very well and growing.

Hence my concern. Its been in there for just under a month with no hiccups. Have been watching closely for interference from other tank mates but nothing to report other than minor food theft from my cleaner shrimp. Always make sure the elegance gets a meal though. Thanks

Your numbers don’t look bad, but in my experience elegance do better in a fairly mature and stable tank.
