Came back from vacation after two days and the top part of the coral is off the base nd floating on the sand still opening and closing if I pick it up what is going on? Looks like it left the hard bony structure on the plug. If it were dead would it still look green and open?

Hmmm.. could be polyp bailout. That’s usually a coral’s last ditch effort to save itself if something is wrong. How long have you had the coral? What are your water parameters? Lighting? Tank size and age?

Def list parameters so u can figure out why it happened....but I've had an elegance for 1 1/2 years. About 6 months ago it let go of its skeleton...I thought it was a goner...so I created a low flow spot for him to open and I still have him now he opens he eats idk how long hell last or if hell make a new skeleton but don't give up yet...
