Elegance Coral Problems

He's looking a bit better today actually. Most of the white tissue has receded, been reabsorbed, or dissolved, whatever the heck it is, and some green coloration is starting to return in the oral disk area. No meaningful polyp extension to speak of yet. However he seems to hate the light. Whenever I turn it on, he closes up some. Still, I guess it's progress.

Woo-hoo it definitely sounds like progress. Could you dim the light maybe?

Sadly I think I lost my battle.

Any info on best way to check for things under a microscope? I didn't see much when I looked last night. Just a couple of small critters. Two worms and these other buggers. I don't think the worms were from in this guy though. I didn't sample flesh, but will see about it tomorrow. I put some unwell bta that were really stressed when shipped. Two died. That may not have helped Water is still being changed daily though.

Looks like a lot of zooxanthellae, and some other stuff. It's hard to see too much as far as bacteria go without some kind of histological stain. I have a few types, but I don't have gram stains or crystal violet. Those are really useful in human histology, not too sure about cnidarian histology, but can't be too much different. Mine wasn't looking as good this afternoon, but I think I need to change our some of his water which I will do tomorrow. Hope you luck out. You think the cipro has had the wrong effect?

The cipro at least hasn't seemed to help. I squirter food on it because at this point why not? Contemplating a med switch, but at this stage...

Will any of the gram stain kits on Amazon work?

I read somewhere where a fish store used to inject an antibiotic directly into the oral disk. Is your totally gone, or do you think you can try something like that? Maybe dissolve some cipro and put it right in there?

I was just able to feed my larger chunk (I think). He actually has a pretty good feeding reflex still, who's to say that the food actually made it into his mouth though. He's closed up around it. Just a piece of mysis.

The little chunk seems to have no interest in the food I sent his way. Here is a pic of the big chunk this morning, and him closed up around the food.

I bit the bullet and added metronidazole. So far as I can tell no one has tried this specific drug, but it has been used at least once in a anemone The anemone and piece of an anemone seem to be the same The coral might be looking a little greener. It's mouth can still open and close so I'm still holding out hope. Plus it has come apart less around its other two mouths. Around the middle mouth there are balls of flesh that are only somewhat attached. It's kind of a split pea soup green. And strings of bright green. I'm going to look at these flesh bits under a microscope. Fingers crossed because this is my last stitch effort. I used it at the same dosage as the cipro, 250g/10g. Crush it up, mix it well in a cup. If water then pour near the inhabitants. It's also on with cipro. I read about a person using both plus penicillin on anemones to cover all bacteria, so I figured it's probably fine to use together.

Pics from today. The green isn't showing at all in the pics, but with a little blue light you can see it on the sides. Oh also the mouth is open again, but it mostly closed last night.

Today's under the microscope images Not sure what these little critters are but they mostly seem to hang out and eat dieing anemones. I thought I had saved this one because it seemed to stop dissolving for a few days. Alas today it turned into a buggar.

Once I sort out video posting I'll make a thread with all my under the microscope stuff

A few more along with its tank mates. I took pics of the anemones last afternoon. The dissolving one finally kicked the bucket. It's been like that for several days.

That's pretty interesting. Are those little critters motile? Some of them look like they've consumed some zooxanthellae. Great pics!

So I'm wondering if when most of us starts treatment is already too late and the damage is already done In that article posted earlier they are described as having the connective tissue start coming apart and by then it really is probably too late. I wonder what would happen if I bought some and immediately treated. I also wonder how long the disease can survive in a tank It's possible it's benign to other corals and can stick around infinitely. I kind of wonder if one of my other additions to the tank carried whatever the problem was with it. Then again it could still be something other than the disease for me. I had one set of zoanthids die and have the other away to see if someone else could remove them. Last I heard they still hadn't opened and had some eggs on them.
