elegance coral thoughts ?

been wanting an elegance coral and my lfs had one that was ~6 inches in diameter and looked good for $65 thought it was a good deal... he told me that they come from 2 regions i think indonesia and i know he said austraila. he was saying how some can get a worm in them which makes them super difficult to keep or get rid of the pest.... looking for someone who knows more about these guys ... any help?

I hope others chime in. From what i was told and my experience is that the Austrian ones are more hardy. Blue tip more so than pink tip. They get very large and are aggressive. I have always loved them but never had luck. I know i was not able to acclimate it to my very bright tank correctly on the last one. The lfs i got it from had it in low light. I did not have a large enough area to acclimate it to my lighting correctly. When they open you need alot of coral free space for them.

I had three back in the 90's, got out of the hobby, and now getting back into it. I will definitely,.....get another !
Don't believe everything you hear, maybe even me, but I'm happy you're researching.
We haven't experienced any bad issues with them. The first one's exoskeleton grew from 3" to 11"in 8 years and was gorgeous, with pink tentacle's.
It also hosted our skunk clown fish. With high lighting they'll do great.

The Australian elegance corals do have a better success rate. Can you post some pics of the corals from the store?

they tend to not fair well with shipping, so if you see the same one in the store for about 2 weeks without a loss of tissue id say its good to go

funny thing is the guy at lfs just cut his up, he wouldnt sell it yet it was still healing.... ill try and get pic this weekend when i go in but got only a crappy old iphone so it will only come out so good, first saw it a week ago so will see how it looks

If just fragged wait to see. If he is a good seller we will wait to be sure it fragged ok. Is it a indo or australian? Just got back from reef a palooza. One booth had a number of elegance each had different pattern in the center. They are very pretty corals.

ya he told me he would not sell it yet, he's a good LFS, i think he said it was from indo but he was confident on it's survival
