i got an elegance coral about 3 weeks ago and its been fine but the last 2 days it seems to have shrunk to half its size..is this a normal thing for them to do from time to time or should i be worried?

I have had one for about a year now and mine will close up sometimes for a day or so.Nothing to worry about just yet?

It looks like anemones do when they shrink sometimes..still got its colour just looks a bit shriveled up

Mine does it everyday at night, and in the morning when the lights come on it opens back up. Every once in a while in the day time it stays close for a while, then will come out on its own.

I had an elegance coral that got ECS. I wish I still had the link that covered it. ECS is something that happens to elegance corals only. Sometimes they have it when you buy it, you just don't know it until it starts receding. It is also contagious with other elegance corals. Mine was fine for months and months, then slowly died. If it has ECS, it also stays in your water for some time. I haven't even attempted to buy another one, even though I really love them.

Here’s an article on Catalaphyllia jardinei the Elegance coral, Elegance Corals: Sustainability and Disease, by Eric Borneman

For me they have been a mixed bag, some very successful, some dying in a few months. It seems the Australian Elegance do the best. Tough to tell the difference sometimes and wholesale dealers will sometimes say theirs are from Australia when I suspect they are not. They come from lagoons not reefs so they are used to turbid water BUT the water parameters must be near perfect.

I moved it yesterday along the front from the side to the middle.seems to be opening up again this morning definately bigger

Hmmm Shrivel

If you have comparatively tested everything
Alk, TDS high in your Top Off water?

Oddities I have seen, a Pallet of bad Instant Ocean, any water change lately?

A piece of equipment, leaching a minute small amount of electricity into your water column.

I have had a similar issue with my 180g that was doing that, I never felt any shock in the water,
I wasn't grounded, come to think of it Nor had the equipment.
I had some Green corrosion on the ground plane or prong on the plug that after I cleaned it by chance and plugged it back in it popped the breaker on my power strip.
Go figure :)

ECS happened to me too

I have to say it happened to me too. 2 weeks ago. It is in-crureable from what I have read. One symptom, tell all. It inflates like a balloon with tentacles that are deflated. bummed. It was looking fantastic for 3 weeks before it started. dam. ECS bites.

Well, I read somewhere that if you caught it in the early stages, and dipped it in revive, you could possibly save it. Unfortunately, my buddy put mine in his tank before I going that article, and caused his to die from it also.

I'll try to remember and pick up some of that "revive", now that I know one of the signs. You could see what he was before. I wonder how long you need to wait, before you can try again. This guy cost me $160.00 plus tax.

Wow, he sure was beautiful though. I'm not sure. It's been almost a year since mine died, and I'm still not willing to try it again just yet.

Well , I don't blame yah. I decided to obtain a green Bubble coral. The Owner of a LFS said he would hand pick one up for me. He is also going to sell it to me at his cost. I did buy this elegant from him, but Do Not hold him accountable for it. so his offer is real cool. It will likely be another week till I found out if he succeded.
