Hi,

Sorry I know there are dozens of posts from people worried about their elegance corals, but I just want to be sure I'm doing whatever I can to let this guy get comfortable.

I've had him for about a week, water parameters are great (1.025, 79 degrees, Kh 8.3, C 430, M 1400ish, N 5-10) with lots of other happy LPS in the tank.

He's in the sand bed under a little shade in my Red Sea Reefer 250 with two LED90s and light flow.

Honestly he seems fine...doesn't look bad, just not fully opening. He did briefly on day 1 after shipping but just a little shy since.

I saw him get a slight nip from my black combtooth blenny on day 2 but no one has bothered him since.

I imagine being patient is my best bet, just wondering if there are any warning signs to look for and/or anything I can do to help him out.

All my corals are spot fed with Red Sea AB mixed in some home grown phyto and a few thawed mysis a couple times a week. I think the elegance has taken a mysis or two.

Thanks!

Oops here's the pic

how do you get Elegance to grow. I've had one for about a year now. It's looking amazing, opens everyday and really no issues with it. But, it's not much bigger than when I got it. I've target fed it a few times, I'm feeding home made food for about 3-4 months now, with maximinos, selcon food, and I know some of the food definitely lands on the elegance. I see it close up after I feed at least once a week if not more. So, just curious how do you get these things to grow new heads, more skeleton etc?

agree looks good ,look for shinkage ,tissue probs;)happy reefing

they are slow growing, deep water ones can grow a little faster, cannot explain why or dif, just my exp :)

So...the elegance is still having a rough go, and seems to be opening less (see pic). My plan is to just be patient...does anyone with more experience or expertise have other suggestions? Thanks!

is the corner flow pushing up on tissue ,looks in pic

Do you know if it's an aussie or indo?

Indo elegance's have previously suffered from ECS(elegance coral syndrome). Looks very similiar to the pics your posting. They shrink up, tentacles get very stubby, and they slowly waste away.

No idea...I got it from Liveaquaria.com and from what I've read there's a pretty low chance of it being Indo, but no real way to tell.

nope sorry not the flow:(

So I'm considering a FW dip and/or an iodine dip. The only trauma for this coral that I witnessed besides shipping (and it looked pretty good on day 1) was a nip from a black combtooth blenny. I'd say the nip was close to the area that's receding the most.

So...seems like if it's an injury from the nip, iodine might be the way to go vs. FW.

Really appreciate the help so far, any thoughts on trying an iodine dip, then observing a while, then going to a FW dip if needed?

opinion no fw rt now, iodine, wait for other opinions, following
