hey reefers, I recently picked up this elegance coral from my LFS. In his tank it was open and looking good. When I brought it home it has at times looked ok, but only in the dark. Here are some pics.

This one is when the lights have been out, almost before they come on.

This one is when the lights are on.

This has been going on for 5 days now, it won't open up while the lights are on, is this normal? I built a little overhang and placed it under that so that the light is peaking through instead of right on it, but it doesn't seem to help. I currently have Radion gen 2's running on Radiant color at 40%, it was under T5's at the LFS.

The Starfish on the side can't be a good thing.... Did you dip the coral??

I didn't dip the coral, I forgot. that pic was from 2 days ago, the star fish is no longer there and didn't actually go on the coral. it looks exactly the same today

Slyler I am no expert here but I do love Elegance corals in general and keep a large specimen myself. So the coral was open under the lights at the FS apparently but doesn't open under yours? Also, you may have unknowingly brought the problem home from the FS. The differences now are lighting and water parameters (pretty much everything). My Elegance seems to like some nutrients in the water or it will start acting sketchy. If you are ultra low nutrient you may want to look at that. I hope you get it sorted.

Thank you for the info Rukk, my tank is running about 20 nitrates and .2 phosphates. That could be the problem. The other euphyllia I have bought from this LFS have done well, a torch and hammer in the last few weeks. the elegance doesn't look to be receding or showing skeleton, could it just be taking time to get used to my system and tank? could I just be over reacting to quickly?
