I'm restocking my 40B and was considering an elegant dottyback. Would more than one be safe in a system this size? I know they're quite small, and supposedly peaceful for Pseudochromis.

From what I’ve read the dottybacks do better in pairs than trios, and do best if they are added young. The dominant fish will become male. There have been reports of males switching to female in the absence of a female. Not sure about that though.

If you get both as VERY young juveniles you can have a pair, trios are more likely to fail as the pair may be aggressive to the lone specimen.
