Hi,
I heard that running Mg at 1500 to 1600 can help with controlling GHA.

Anybody tried this?

I had a 60 gal 6 years ago and had a GHA problem. The owner of Neptunes Reef (Denver, CO) Recommended Kents Tech M (which is a Mg supplement) and run it up to 1600 and YES it worked. Took about 2 weeks but GHA dissolved.

It worked for me, running mag at 1500. You still need some GHA for your animals to eat, without it your CUC will starve and maybe also pods may decline. Just keep it under control in a few out of the way areas is beneficial for your reef.

Here are some pics for you. First was my 46 bowfront last year just before upgrade to 75. #2 in march and last six months later. My clam has grown almost 2" in this time, had a little setback when upgrading to 75, tossed the old sand and got new less fine grained. The only problem I have is my Colt coral shrinking and Duncans just not happy. Don't know what is causing this but everything else is fine so will just not change anything except maybe lower the mag a little more to see if it makes a difference.

Cool. Thanks. Neptune's reef is a great shop. Did they have that parrot when you last went there? It's really funny!

I wouldn't risk killing other things by raising magnesium that high. Get sea urchins for algae they work wonders. 1 per 50 gallons is enough.
