I've got a RSR 625XXL that's been setup and running for about a month and a half. The total system volume is about 150 gallons with the Trigger Systems Sapphire 39 sump. The tank is cycled with a light bioload at the moment (some live sand, 6 fish and two coral). The Reef Octopus Elite 200-INT was turned on about a month ago, two weeks after the tank had been running and cycling. Instantly it began foaming uncontrollably, filling the collection cup within 30 seconds. I could not get it dialed regardless of outflow control or pump speed. I expected this to some degree knowing that skimmers need some break in time as well as the need to build up some skim. I found that if I raised the skimmer up to where it is sitting in about 5.75"-6" (recommended level is 7.5"-9") of water, the foam production slowed and I was able to pull the drain plug and let it run. I figured eventually it would work itself out. Well, here I am a month later and it is no better. I've contacted Coral Vue support who have been responsive and helpful but unfortunately their recommendations or ideas have not remedied the problem. I use RODI water, Fritz RPM (Blue) salt, and BRS 2 part dosing; no other additives or supplements. My pH, temp and salinity (1.025) are stable. All filter socks are well broken in. I have taken the skimmer apart and checked all parts and assembly for defects or potential causes but found nothing. I've tried all different water level settings, both within the sump and skimmer, and tried various pump speeds. I just can't get this thing to work properly. I've attached a few pics. Anyone ever experience this or have any ideas?

I have several reef octopus skimmers but not that particular model. Are you dosing anything that may affect the bubbles? The bubble look really clean and don't appear to have any of the normal brownish organics. It sounds like you have turned down the pump and limited the air flow as much as allowable. Personally I would continue to raise the skimmer level (even if that means 3-5" below the water level) and then likely you will be able to lower the skimmer over time. Good luck!

At what height did you sit it, mine is at 8 "also at 7.5 it worked, you could give a photo of the complete sump it looks very new it could be some plastic or glue that reacts like a new sock.
