Elos Diamond Line Quiet Overflow Review

I'm starting planning on a tank upgrade for next summer after a move. As Reef Savvy is in the running, and there is a bit of a wait for a tank if I go that way, I figure I may want to decide on a tank relatively soon. The options for an upgrade at this time are Reef Savvy, Elos Diamond Line and Red Sea Reefer.

Now that the Elos Diamond Line has been out for some time, I am wondering if people may provide some updated reviews on the Quiet Overflow and any issues they may have had?

Ive had an Elos 120xl with the Quiet Drain running for about three and a half months. I'm really happy with how its been operating. The actual overflow box is nice and slim so you don't really notice it. I really like the dual returns located high and low to distribute flow. The dial on the overflow box makes it extremely easy to get the water that enters the overflow silent. One important note though is because of the fact the overflow can now handle a lot more flow, once the water hits the drain pipe below the tank there is a lot of turbulence and air in the pipe. This causes quite a lot of noise depending on the flow rate through the overflow. There is a fix however and a handful of people on here have had the same solution, Elos also mention it as an option in the overflow manual. Installing a valve on the drain line below the tank will allow you to run the drain full of water and no air, making it amazingly quiet and peaceful ;Shamefullyembarrased

Great info. Thanks! I'm thinking the Elos may be the way to go, depending on the space we will have, as they have bigger options than the Red Sea Reefer and by the time we settle on a place, the turn around time for Reef Savvy may be a bit prohibitive.

No worries mate, im onto my second Elos now and don't think i'd ever go anything different. My first was an Elos mini that i had setup for around 5 years. Now i have the 120xl and dream of going bigger again! haha Good luck whichever way you go.

How are you Elos tanks treating you these days? I'm looking at adding another tank. Looking at the System Diamond Line 120. Pros and cons over some of the other options? Thx

I’m still loving the Elos 120XL, no problems at all. The biggest pro for me is the slim overflow. I love having Clear glass at the back of the tank and no big overflows.
I think most of the ready reef tanks out there are good options it just comes down to personal preference on the individual details of each tank. Then of course price.
If I were to do it again I’d still go the Elos.
