Hello everyone. Last week I had my 250DD Spring a leak. Needless to say I was not happy. I was able to move everything to a downstairs tank that I had not setup yet, I had a couple of casualties but so far not too bad. I now am in the process of getting ready to order a new tank. My cabinet size for the 250DD is 60”x 36 x 30 high. I have narrowed it down to 2 aquariums. The first would be an Elos 120XL Diamond Series. Yes I know the dimensions are totally different from my stand but I would make it work out by being creative. The second is a custom 60x36x20 Eurobraced tank by Crystal Dynamic. I would like to here some opinions or suggestions and see if I can make the decision easier Buy getting some input or facts from those people that are familiar with the 2 companies or actually have tanks made by them. I know I am also comparing Eurobraced Vs Rimless, but I am fine with either. I have heard great things about both companies but the more research I do., the more difficult the choice seems to be. I have heard good things and bad things about the Elos “ Silent OverFlow.” Any suggestions or opinions would be apprecated. Especially by more seasoned aquarists then myself.

Thank you

Lets see if we can get you some answers

I like Crystal Dynamics tanks. One thing that I wish my tank had was Eurobracing, wouldn't have to worry about water splashing around when cleaning the waterline with my magnet cleaner. Plus you get more water volume than the 120xl.

i do not have experience with either so all i can offer is my opinion and I am sure someone will chime in...

I was going to buy and did a boat load of research and was extremely close to buying the Elos until I decided to get a custom tank for almost the same price so that would be my two cents..

cant go wrong either way...

I have to say that the person I have been speaking with at Crystal Dynamics is very knowledgeable and extremely helpful, I have also been in contact with Aquarium specialist in regards to the elos and they are extremely helpful, great customer service they even put me on the phone with the president of Elos USA and he was also very helpful. I have to say I was inspired by a couple of build threads I saw and n the Elos 120Xl. They did an amazing job.

Sorry if I am not suppose to,post the links.

Please delete if that is the case

Have you actually physically seen either tank? The Crystal Dynamic tank in person is incredible. They reinforce the corners and bottom. Their 150 will be my next tank. pictures don’t do their tanks justice.

That’s a monster. I also received a quote from them. I sent a couple of emails back and forth but they didn’t seem to really understand some of my questions. The price was pretty good.

I had my 72"x36"x24" made by Crystal Dynamics. I've been very pleased with it and would use them again. I chose eurobraced and external coast to coast overflow as a personal preferences. I have no personal experience with Elos so can't comment there.

Currently, I have am Elos 160XL Diamond Line and an Elos 100. The Elos 160XL replaced my 120XL. As you can tell, I am a big fan of Elos tanks. If you decide to go with the 120XL, you will mot be disappointed. The dimensions (especially the width) gives you a lot of room for aquascaping and placing corals. Also, the 120XL is one of their standard aquariums, so you will be able to get it fairly quickly.

I have not had the opportunity to see either one in person.
I would try to do that first. Check your local clubs to see if anyone has them and would let you see them. I would say Crystal Dynamics looks close to Reef Savvy quality.
