My yellow clown goby looks emaciated. I'm not sure its eating. It grabs food and spits it out. It's so small its hard to tell if the fish is eating. I add a half cube of either mysis, brine, or marine cuisine a day. I have tried pellets but it wont eat those. I have had it in the tank for about a month. Should I be feeding more or something different? My other fish are fat and happy.

The goby has already been treated for parasites with prazipro and metronidazole.

.....or try some frozen cyclops, or can'o'cyclops.
and the pellets should be micro pellets to fit in its mouth

Can you post pics under white lighting? Skin seems off. These fish feed throughout a given day and need more than just pods. Some other foods are :

  • Chopped crustacean flesh
  • Spirulina brine shrimp
  • Chopped mollusk
  • Cyclops
  • LRS Fish Frenzy
  • Mysis shrimp
  • small plankton

Live food.....amphipods copepods live brine shrimp fed selcon, mysid shrimp
I'm not sure any of the store around me sells live food. The LFS I have has ich in its water systems so I don't trust anything wet from them.

I have spectrum small pellets but I don't think the goby recognizes the pellets as food. I'll try the other small food. This eating problem is new for me.

Its color is good and the goby acts normal. its just getting very thin despite spot feeding. It acts interested but It must not be eating while its spitting out food.

Better question - where did you get the fish? I’ve had terrible luck with vendors giving me emaciated gobies - you might’ve gotten a little guy that is already on its way out. TDO xsmall pellets and pods are my recommendation to try but at the end of the day a healthy fish eats

I got him from drreef so I have been trying to feed what it was being fed at that facility. I am starting to wonder if the goby was wild caught and just not adapting well. I have two clowns and a royal gramma that came from there and they are fat and happy and eating like pigs.

In my experience with clown gobies if you get one that isn’t eating like this there’s a 99% chance it won’t make it. I’ve had a ton - no idea what the reason is but its a thing for sure and heartbreaking. Wishing you best of luck and I really hope he turns around, but don’t get your hopes up :(

I would check out SeahorseSavvy.com - they are doing good things with aquarium acclimation for clown gobies. I was ready to give up on them until I found that place.

I'm willing to bet he was wild caught. It's not uncommon with clown gobies. They're still cheap from the wild. Hopefully you get him eating soon. I've had my green clown goby for 11 years. They're great fish.

Edit: might be a fish worth buying from a store in person. Just like a mandarin, I'd like to avoid any that have sunken bellies.

There seems to be a “point of no return” with these little guys - once they hit it its almost impossible to get em back

That's really unfortunate. I hate watching a fish die. I'm going to keep trying different foods from what has been suggested here and hope for the best. Thank you for the best wishes.

My LFS doesn't have Fish frenzy but they have rods. I will try that while looking for other food sources.
Rods fine food or you can chop up original blend. Rods has good plankton mix
