My emerald crab went mia about a week ago. Found one claw sitting on a rock two days ago which was odd, but I had just got done making a mess of my scape to get a bta out so thought he might have gotten crushed/pinched etc. well I just pulled all my rocks out and there's no sign of him anywhere. It's only a 14g biocube with three pieces of LR and a relatively shallow sand bed. Maybe two inches at its deepest. Livestock is two clowns, clown goby, some snails and a few hermits. Nothing that I would expect to eat him... So what the heck? Could he have been barrier under the sandbed?

Found him... A few days ago my mj900 started sounding weird, but I ignored it cause I planned to move everything over to my new tank tonight and figured I would pull the mj apart and clean it.. Well the crab was stuck in the inlet of the pump STILL ALiVE! Put him in the bucket and acclimated him with everyone else and put him in the new tank.. Hopefully all goes well and his other claw grows back.

wow, poor little dude.

i know my emerald crab(s) are good at vanishing. i have maybe up to 3 of them, but i only ever seen one about once every month or so.

the same with my peppermint shrimp. they seem to blow in and out with the wind, showing up when they feel like it. although i am 99.9999% sure that they're all gone at this point too. until i stumble across in an overflow or something. :)

Yeah I feel bad for the little guy. He was the very first anything in my very first tank too, so hopefully all goes well. I picked up another emerald crab too yesterday and got the largest, massive clawed one they had, so hopefully when they come across each other it will be ok. Emeralds usually get along with each other?

Just as an aside , I've had multiple incidents involving emerald crabs shredding the flesh on various corals . I recently had to get rid of all mine after the third such problem

I've heard the same from others. I know my original crab was fine and never messed anything up. Hopefully the new guy is the same.. If not, back to the LFS.
