I know these can be hit or miss but I'd like to know if anyone has had poor experiences with their emeralds regarding mushrooms. Im starting to get some bubble algae but am scared a crab will eat my jawbreaker. Manual removal for bubble algae is not an option because my fat fingers can't fit into all the rock crevices :(

How have emeralds treated you?

I've had several emeralds in the past and none have ever touched bubble algae nor have they bothered any mushrooms. I started using vibrant. After about a month and a half all bubbles were gone.

I don't think you'll have any problems with the Emerald crab and the mushrooms, but like you said you never can tell with these things sometimes. Definitely keep your eyes peeled. GL.

I would say yes your safe

I have lots of fancy mushrooms and 2-3 emeralds and have never had an issue

Great thanks for the responses everyone! I'll pick up a small one and keep my eye on it

I have a big ole emerald crab and have had no problems whatsoever with it other than it knocking a few frags over before they were superglued into place.
I think it's the same as when you see people post suggestions to get a certain kind of wrasse to eat some sort of pest in a tank like they are sure to cure your problem.
Just because a melanarus wrasse ate your flatworm doesn't mean the next guys will too.
Some crabs will bother corals, some won't .

My emeralds ate bubble algae. I have never had an issue with any except the one that fish hooked my diamondback gobi and wouldn't let go. Stupid gobi wanted his gills and mouth cleaned, and thought the emerald crab might lend a hand. Nope, the crab clamped down on the mouth and wouldn't let go until I reached in and scared the crab. Crab and gobi are doing fine 1 year later.

He went straight to town on algae the moment I dropped him in :). I'll banish him to another tank if I find him munching on my shrooms

I actually saw my red emerald take a test of my bounce when I first put it in. I was thinking I had a new sump lord. He then took his claw and tried to take it back out numerous times before spitting particles into the water column. It must have tasted terrible lol. It was hanging over the rock and I think it was mistaken identity. Hasn't touched it since.

Agree with the hit or miss on these guys. 2 of the 3 I've had have been model citizens.

The other one I caught digging in my Duncans the first day we got him. I was so angry I plunged my hand into the tank and actually caught him barehanded and yanked him out. He was banished to the sump and eventually to the dwarf puffer tank (what can I say, I hold grudges).

I had a huge out break of bubble algae that covered my rock work, I finally gave in and added 8 emerald crabs and a rabbit fish the wiped out almost all the bubbles in 2 months except for a couple of small patches, so far no eating of my zoas and palys. fingers crossed

Ditto. I used to have emerald crabs, but I removed them after they ate my ricordia and yuma.

I recently had an outbreak of bubble algae, so I tried one again to see if he'd eat it. I hadn't seen him in days since I put him in the tank. Then I come home tonight and see he's made his way to an SPS colony about a foot up in the tank. He's chilling in a big piece of bubble algae, eating it like it's a bucket of movie popcorn.

From my experience, good at eating bubble algae...but will also eat any mushrooms with "bubble" type of polyps.
