Emerald Crabs

Just because? Or do you need one for bubble algae? They are hit and miss there.
I like emerald crabs even just to watch. The one I currently have eats bubble and all sorts of stuff but I’d still like it if it didn’t eat bubble. Always cruising around pinching rocks. Idk I just think they are cool.

I never bothered but I’ve read the females are desirable. I’ve hd them in my tanks most 18 years. Hard workers.

Nothing wrong with that.

I have a hair algae issue and someone recommended me get one for that. Not sure what to do. I tried altering my light schedule, feeding less. And nothing seems to work. I also started using phosguard to lower my phosphates. I need help.

GHA is common and emerald crab won't help that. Snails and urchin will along with daily manual removal.

I respectfully disagree. In my experience, emerald crabs are a good component for keeping gha at bay. Urchins as well for sure. Snails too.
I don't think there's one key cuc and variety is best. Personally,I stay away from hermits. They often steal food from coral.

I agree diversity is key. Maybe I had lazy crabs then.

My new emerald crab is brilliant, been busy eating all my hair algae, and everything else. I highly recommended them. We have a male so he is happy on his own and has plenty of balls if anythings gets to close. Another invert that is great for clean up crew. We will twice a week feed it directly with red seaweed

Fantastic creatures ,however mine decided to comit suicide and climbed out of the tank ,which is a major feat.. 2ft glass , large projecting rim,and a 2inch open hood, found it on the carpet .. pfft, I will get another ,great to watch ps why do the inhabitants do stuff at night or when your out ?ha

I had a few and I enjoyed watching them, but they did not make it long. Not sure what happened to them.

You may find they're still in there ha ,I thought mine had gone for weeks ,only to see an arm sweeping out of a crevice ,I was dead chuffed, only to have it commit hari kari months later !!

I have bubble too but my LFS said don’t do emeralds too much risk. I have a 25 gallon so I can’t do a fish for bubble so what else is left??
