I am in the middle of a system build and have been thinking about emergency filtration needs. I want to have available at a moments notice emergency filtration that I will run intermittently. I want to be able to run Carbon, GFO, Couprisorb. and UV either all at once or one at a time as needed. I want to be able to drain out the UV when not in use so I don't get scum on the bulb. I need to plan a manifold and filter canisters for this.

I want to be prepared for emergencies. Not have to order something or wait to use this filtration. I want it at a moments notice with the flip of a valve. I may use carbon on a regular basis for water clarity.

Just curious what other people have done.

HoB filter is all I use. Still not sold that UV isn't just an old wives tale when it comes to personal use.

I want to be a prepared. There will be lots at risk once this system has grown out. I have tank emergencies in the past and I want to be ready. I know I will use carbon to keep water clear as needed so a few extra canisters are not a big deal. The UV I would agree is a big maybe. But I got two large UV units for free.

Just put a reactor in the sump with nothing in it.

UV systems do not build up any scum if they're running, and if you have one you should run it continuously as it aids water clarity. If you don't want to do that just use some unions and ball valves and take it out of the loop

Run carbon 24/7. if you need to put gfo in it then just take the carbon out and put gfo in. The UV can be turned on or off and as others said can be cut off with a ball valve or something. Cuprisorb can just be thrown in a bag into a filter sock or something. Again, you only need 1 reactor, but you can get a dual reactor and keep one chamber empty if you really want to do so.

I have a diatom filter for all my needs especially for emergencies of sometimes when I collect NSW.

I never use any of those products you mentioned but you can put powered carbon in it. None of those other things though.

I was thinking about getting a cheep used RODI and replumb filter stages with valves. I can fill media canisters for what ever I need.
