Hey friends!

Over the last few days all of my fish passed away. Granted I did not have many fish 2 clowns, 6 damsels, pink spotted goby, and 2 tangs.

I have a 210gallon tank with a 44 gallon sump

Water parameters:
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 5
Ammonia: 0
PH: 8.2
KH: 11
Camcium: 420
Salinity: 1.023

I am honestly dumb founded and do not understand what happened. This is my 5th tank and has been up and running for around 4 months. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Did you QT the fish? How did they die? What were the symptoms?
Yes I did QT the fish. They started to slow down and then they passed away it was pretty fast.

Sorry! Yes, it sure sounds like a disease hit hard! Did you see any spots?

Did they show disease symptoms? Have you checked for stray voltage?

I am sorry for your loss! The list of suspects for a complete wipeout is fairly short. The first things that come to mind are Velvet and oxygen deprivation. Both of these things can wipe out an entire tank quickly. There are other possibilities, but more info is needed to figure out what really happened.

No spots, biggest thing I noticed was my pink spotted goby fins looked like they were deteriorating. All of the fish have been in the same tank together for over a month with no change when this happened

Did you prophylactically treat? Did you QT all invterts and/or coral?

No corals yet we were going to start corals but then covid 19 hit.

Electrical current? Failed heater/ temp probe? That sucks. Hope you find the cause.

Thank you, we are testing everything we really appreciate all of the feedback. We are looking into the heaters now and making sure there is not electrical current in the water either.

Update, return pump in sump was putting out electrical current thank you everyone for the feedback!

Sad that everything died, but I'm glad you found the culprit. Best of luck for the next round.
That’s a real depressing thing I lost 76% of my fish a week ago so I know how you feel,

Glad you found it. Horrible to lose fish but at least you werent fully stocked. :/

So sorry this happened. I’m glad you found the answer.

What about installing GFCI outlets? I think they would detect stray voltage and shut off a circuit.

I’m not an electrician but I’ve seen @Brew12 give some pretty amazing advice.

Great GFCI Power Strip

I grabbed a couple of these for my tank. They are a good quick option that will protect you and your livestock without getting an electrician involved. I use one for the equipment on battery backup and the other for non-essential equipment. I also have a grounding probe in my tank for good measure.
