I had to deal with a protracted, yet scheduled, power outage yesterday. Aside from incorporating as much biofiltration as possible on the long term, I bought a powercell and chargeable air pump. It was $225 for a 300 watt cell (or indoor generator is what they're labeled as) and another $30 for the 4 year extended warranty. You can also buy solar panels for about $150. I was able to run my 2 LEDs, 2 PHs, and skimmer for 4 hours straight. Recharged for an hour at a neighbor's then back over for another 4 hours.
WHAT IS YOUR EMERGENCY PLAN???

I am cursed to live in a place where outages are common and sometimes lengthy. I am blessed with the ability to install a standby generator. It has saved my tanks numerous times -- often times I am not home.

Were my budget more limited, your plan looks like a good one.

DC pumps and a car battery... very longterm outage then my generator to run everything.

We just had a scheduled power outage (upgrading wiring) and my CyberPower CST135XLU 1350v/800w only powering my SICCI 2.0 return pump lasted 6hrs. I wasn’t worried about lights, wavemakers, etc. I was mainly worried about my return flow and breaking surface tension

I have a couple of Ecotech battery backups for my Vortechs. I also have a boatload of D cell batteries for my bait bucket aerator that I use to keep eels (striper candy) alive on my kayak during the striper fishing season. Serves double duty should I need it for my reef.

I couldn't justify the cost of a whole home standby system when you consider in 3 years we had one power outage for about 6 hours.

I did do a 30A exterior generator receptacle that back feeds into a interlocked breaker (it is legal and to code). This way, I can use any generator as long as I load match to its size, and I still have a portable generator for other things on the farm. My only plan is to pour a bad with a couple of embedded eye bolts to chain it down to. I currently just have a regular has generator, but have also been considering one of the dual fuel for the future.

You can cut the cord of an ecotech battery back up and splice on alligator clips to run on any car/marine 12v battery. A lot cheaper and run a lot longer than the ecotech battery back up. I have one of the back ups installed on my tank for short term usage but Have several batteries on my boat I can use if my battery back up runs out of juice.

A HF 3500 watt inverter generator and a transfer switch, used it a few times already on outages that were long enough to cause issues.
