I’m setting up an emergency 10 Gallon QT for two clowns with ich. Just bought the tank and freshly mixed saltwater in it. It’s ready for the fish, however I’m concerned about ammonia. My LFS told me to just perform 25% water changes every 4 days. They also advised I take a sponge from my DT, and put it in the QT to help with the bacteria. I found it odd because my DT is where the fish currently are in. If I bring the sponge into my QT, wouldn’t that re-infect them? My LFS said no because im using cupramine, but want a second opinion. Thanks

Sponge would be sufficient
It’s hard to seed a bare tank with bacteria but do monitor the ammonia and change water accordingly

thank you! Just to double check, it’s fine that the sponge comes from my DT where the infected fish are

You will probably need to change more than 25%. But clowns are small. Just test the ammonia and keep Prime on hand.
Prime will not do anything to help with ammonia (despite the marketing claims).

Wouldn’t recommend that but see if an LFS or fellow reefer can spare you one

Yeah I was actually advised against prime with copper combo
Especially since prime has bonders for safety and prime would dissolve it making the copper dangerous to use

Consider researching the the tank transfer method on humblefish.

I’ve been suggesting people use Amquel instead of Prime. I know the inventor of Amquel and the chemistry is pretty solid.
