I was supplementing magnesium in my tank and accidentally got the soda ash instead. Just added 250 cc of soda ash to my 90 gal tank with a alk 8.6 and ph of 8. Doing big wAter change. What else can I do

Your ALK is 8.6 after the soda ash? LEAVE IT ALONE. That's fine. Just maintain it there. One little spike is ok, just don't make the mistake of it going up and down and up and down etcetcetc. Just hold it at that....

No alk was 8.6 before the soda ash. I think I really screwed up. Did a 29 gal water change with just to/di water. My salt is 28 and alk is 10.2

Those are both FINE. Leave them alone. Just hold it stable. If you wanna bring it down. DO IT SLOWLY.

Stop worrying about PH. We rarely test PH....if your ALK is fine, your PH will be too (assuming you have decent agitation and oxygen in the house. 10.2 ALK is fine, it'll just help your coral grow faster, make sure your cal and mag are inline, and hold it there. I hold my alk at 11 steady. And my corals are fine. I have a few things that are massive and grew from a little frag. Like my fox is one.

Thanks. My nag is low at 760. Ca is 456. What about my salinity. I usually keep it at 35. I was trying to replace my mg when this whole thing happened. Now I’m afraid to do anything. Should I add 645 ml of bulk reef supply mag which would raise it 100 which is the recommended amt. thanks so much for helping.

How long has your Mag been low? And howd that happen? It's so hard to lower mag... like your mag is VERY low. Do you have corals? If you don't then just dose to put it in range...if you do..might be a different story. BUT good news is..if you have any parameter you need to dose because its too low..MAG is the best choice lol

My mg has always been fine. I was using Red Sea to check. Then I ordered a new Red Sea kit and tested it yesterday x 2 and got 750. I’m not sure I believe it either. I have leathers, a bubble coral I love, green poylp, zoanthoid

I'm guessing they aren't ticked. Hmm, I think your mag test is off...take some water to your LFS.

i'd just raise the mag. do a water change but tbh i'd be surprised if your coral got upset. also, go to the LFS and have them test your water to play it safe, or ask a friend.

Youre going to be ok..... label your chemicals well especially the BRS ONES all look the same
You can do a water change for piece of mind ..... but again you’ll be ok

Retested it is 1200. I was reading the reagent left in the syringe not the reagent used. I’m really not having a good day.

thanks so much!! This hobby is nerve racking

You’re very safe. Its a safe level. At water change, salt mix may raise mag.... don’t add til then. Test and then determine what you’ll need

Not sure if this is relevant to you . . But after almost mistaking the Coral Dip for the Stability bottle without paying attention way back I started putting a piece of painters tape over any bottle that looked similar to another and could potentially mess up my tank if I wasn’t paying attention for some reason.

you're fine. do a 25% water change. let alk drop naturally but if you're not running SPS, 10dkh isn't an unacceptable level.

I would suggest (like everyone else) to bring things around slowly. For salinity you can ATO saltwater using this calculator.

I brought my salinity up really fast once and it blew up my skimmer for days and had who knows what kind of impact on my critters. Learned that lesson and passing it on to you now :) take it slow and fix salinity through ATO.
