I noticed this guy lucky in the shadows and pulled him out for a closer look.

Can you confirm that he's an emerald crab? A closer look shows that the claws are indeed flatter, but the black coloration on the right pincher and overall size (3+ inches) freaked me out for a moment.

I had lost the last few fish I added to the tank and was ready to blame this little beast, but now I'm having second thoughts.

Hey hun! So emerald crabs can kill small fish. But! They generally won’t unless the fish tried to enter the crab’s territory. They’re famous for claiming caves as they’re house and being very protective of it.

and yes, I believe he’s most certainly an emerald crab.
