Emma's Jedi Mind Tricks got me again

This is great! It's always nice to see other family's sharing the Reefing lifestyle with their children. My kids are very young but already enjoy my tanks. As you said, I think our children have been to more fish stores and frag swaps than they have been to playgrounds, lol. One of the first words my almost 2 year old son says is fishy. Keep spreading the love of Reefing because really, it's the future of this great hobby.

Emma said she wanted a new skimmer and more flow. It went something like "Dad, you will buy me the Reed Octopus 110 SSS Skimmer and a Ecotech MP10wQD".

That's great!!! When my Grandchildren come over to visit, the first thing they do is rush to the tank and see if there is anything new or changed in the tank. They don't miss anything! I'm grateful they enjoy it. My wife won't admit it but she likes it too.

HAHA you are so full of it and I love it! LOL!

Wow, that is so cool that you have a tank project with your daughter. Getting her into some sort of science (Marine Bio) and understanding how an ecosystem works is outstanding. She is going to have a big leg-up on her classmates who have only ever had hamsters!

Keep up the great work and good luck to both you and Emma!

We were using a cad light 50 skimmer, and it went "Dad, that looks nothing like your skimmer. Does that even take out fish poo?" [HASHTAG]#emmaknows[/HASHTAG]

Emma is very interested in the sciences of the hobby. She's been very fortunate to meet some amazing marine biologists and spend plenty of time at California Academy of Sciences. She even donated a frag of Emma's Jedi Mind Trick Montipora to the cause and Matt W and Rich R grew it into a display. She goes and looks for that coral every time we visit! :)

Emma and I were feeding the dendros a couple days ago when she asked, "Do you always have to turn those nobs to control the lights dad? You don't do that on your tank."

In other words, "Dad, you will buy me a new Kessil 360we and controller..."

That's it for now. Maybe.

I was reminded today again how awesome the people in the hobby can be. I posted a few days ago inquiring about any used books from friends and today a box showed up from a long time reefing friend. Coolest part, this book was the first book I read so many years ago, before Emma was even born. Thanks SaraB!

Awesome tank, I'm glad to see she has such great interest in the hobby. Oh and of course she wants a Jawbreaker her dad is the King of Jawbreakers lol

Just a quick little iPhone update on Emma's tank. :)

She's added a few corals to her tank. I mean, doesn't every 9 year old need a jawbreaker, my miami chunk, tyree pink watermelon, tyree Jayda watermelon, and even some fat head dendros, acans, blastos, zoas, and a nice lobo?

Oh wow, nice!

My daughter is 4, and she wanted a tank too. But cant afford another reef tank, so I just bought her for now a 1.5G from petco with two gold fish.

Awesome job dad!

To be honest, my display is just not as fun as it used to be so going through this phase has been great and I've been slowly trying to get some inspiration back for the hobby. Emma inspires me so I hope she wears off on me

Thanks. I know exactly what you mean. Not the experience or span of time you've been in the hobby part, but like you, I take my daughter with me 99% of the time when I go to the LFS', and half of my fish are picked by her. LOL

...only problem is when she asks something for her tank, it's hard to explain that there's only limited number of fish that we can put in a 1.5 gallon tank. Hahaha
