Have you ever come across the livestock you’ve been looking for during your travels and wondered if you could purchase her and carry her home in your carry on luggage? A emotional support animal? Lol. I do travel a lot and come across corals I’d like to purchase but have no way of getting it home. I’d hate to purchase a coral and have to leave it at security. Ideas?

You have to look at specific airlines guidelines but traveling with coral is legal. You can also pay for stock and have a lfs ship it when your going to be home, obviously this may be expensive but some will do it if you ask.

In the US it is legal to carry on an animal as long as you show it's alive. I think you are not allowed to check them in your luggage.

In Canada there are NO liquid exemptions, I'm not really sure why, but you can check fish / coral in your bags. I have checked a foam box without issue. I took it to the fragile area and didn't tape it up until they swabbed it ect. I've also dumped the water from coral bags just before going through security and wrapped them in wet paper towels more then once. Never an issue since there is not enough liquid in the paper towels to cause concern and most corals are fine out of the water for a few hours. Obviously certain things cannot be kept out of the water as long like anemones or mushrooms for example.

How long have you kept the corals out of water? I’m assuming that’s only true for sps, correct?

I was down in Aruba 2 years ago and in one of our excursions our guide near the” baby natural bridge said you could take one piece of black and one piece of white ..The black was volcanic rock and the white was coral so I just happened to see a huge! I bet it weighed 35 lbs so I took it upon my self to pick up and lug back to vehicle . The guide saw me lugging that huge piece back and he laughed his rearmed off! I could resist ! It was dead but it was a great piece . It was pretty funny when security checked my bags getting back to states !
So my emotional support animal doesn’t have to be alive lol! I was stoked to be able to keep from the remainder of cruise and bring home!
