How do you guys maintain QT tank? Do you leave it empty and let it run with ATO? Or do you shut it down and only set it up when you need it?

anyone running 10 gallons QT tank empty for just in case situation? I am thinking of running it empty permanently for just in case and also if I want to get a new fish so I don’t need to deal with setting it up from scratch again.

I always use two QT tanks. I broke mine down few months ago because I said no more fish! But they are now running again lol, I agree keeping them running is better then setting up over and over again

I have one running but I do add new media from my DT before adding new livestock. Will also change 50% of the water before a new fish enters my QT tank.

ok. So what do you guys do? Ghost feeding the empty tank? I read that you can’t really starve bacteria, so meaning we don’t need to feed it? Do you run ATO, heater, and leave bio media and rocks in it?

I see no particular logic to keeping a standard fish QT running without any boarders. It’s trivial to set one up as needed .... even unexpectedly. My 20L is dry until I need it. A coral QT is a somewhat more complicated setup, so running that 24/7 may make a bit more sense.

I don’t ghost feed. Shocking I let it sit for 40
Days without doing anything. I then decided to add my leftover saltwater from a batch that wasn’t heated so it was very cool. Upon adding it I ended up killing about 10 copepods that were living in my QT which I thought was empty.

I had two designer clowns in it from March so never dosed Carbon but pulled a filter from my DT.
The point is, the tank was still healthy without touching anything but again I still add new media from DT when adding new fish.
