Encouraging fire shrimp to come out?

I got on saturday a blood red fire shrimp. Today was the first day i caught a 5 second glimpse as he went out of my internal filter heater section. I tried to feed him flake food but ran somewhere. Is there anyway i can encourage him to be more bold or at least be more comfortable?

I have one and he has hidden behind a rock at the back of my tank since I got him.

I can lure him out a bit with food but he just goes straight back.

Just need some patience till they get more comfortable. You've got one fire shrimp right? It might help to add another. In pairs, they often feel safer and tend to be more active.

Have you tried feeding lobster eggs? My shrimp goes crazy for those, so maybe you could try that. I always feed at regular times. And my fish and shrimp know that. So whenever it's dinner time they get more active and reply to every movement I make.

Edit: the lobster eggs that I got are just frozen ones. Make sure to not overly feed those cause they're quite polluting. Most of it ends up between the rocks, and unless you've got enough cleaners, you could end up with high nitrates if you overly feed.

Nah, shouldn't be that hard. In lfs they're mostly in big groups. If you just pick two it should be right. They're group animals, they prefer to be with other shrimp.

I will see what happens in the 2 week period i have until i next go to my lfs but if things arent as good or need improving i will step in.

they can live alone perfectly fine, they just tend to be more active and comfortable when they're with other shrimp. So there is no need to have two of them. But it might help you get yours a bit in sight

Theyre pretty reclusive. Typically the only time you'll see them often is if you have an open rock scape or during feeding time. They're not out as often as cleaners which is a shame with how pretty they are. I never see mine.

I thought they would kill rach other if it was a pair and i dont know how to sex them.

I had one for 4 years - I know it still was there because i saw the result from the molt now and then. 4 weeks ago - I got 2 more - now I see them every day.

just like a newly introduced fish, your shrimp will acclimate to the new space soon enough. chances are its out when the lights are off and will be fine scavenging if its even chosen to eat yet.

Now I work on my tank all the time constantly trimming Corals or adding new things so it’s never neglected. My eyes are in my tank daily and I stop to look at my reef numerous times if not, more per day.
Well last week one early morning before lights were on I walked by and I was shocked when I saw my fire shrimp pop out from behind the massive rock wall that I have. It has literally been 4+ years that I had not seen him at ALL.
i have not seen his molt in that time either so no idea where it’s going but there was ZERO sign of this guy in 4yrs until last week! Hahah
So if you have a ton of rock I would not get one!

You don't need to feed it.

I see mine all the time, but I have a NSA, so there really isn't anywhere for it to hide completely. Still, it usually hangs out in the same spot, which is under a ledge in the middle away from the front.
