Hey reefers,

Can you help me ID what’s up with this new Mille frag?

I ask because if there’s something I can do to help it heal, I don’t want to risk losing this one.

In the attached pic the outer edges of the encrusted growth have weakened. I’m not sure if the edges are bleaching or receding. It doesn’t look like STN, but not sure...

Note: this frag was in a coral QT tank for 5 days. I placed it in the display yesterday. Dinos have been growing rapidly in the QT, which might of been related to this issue. Parameters were stable in the QT and nutrients low but detectable. Light not super strong (no par measurement though).

I’d really appreciate it if anyone let’s me know what might be going on with this frag and if there’s anything I can do to help the coral.

Thank you so much!

Hope what's happening to mine will give you some hints. From what you described, same has been happening on my cb maleficent the last few days. However the polyps in the bleached area are still opening, and looks like it starts to heal on its own. Everyone else is doing ok, nothing changed, no spike on any para.

It looks like the issue is trending worse. It looks like bleaching but a little bit of the tissue is falling off (see arrow in picture).

What might be going on? What can I do to prevent further damage?

Thank you so much.

Bump! Anyone? It’s getting worse.

Not sure if it’s STN or bleaching... or what should I do.. just leave it?

Moderate lighting and water flow and Verify Salinity ( take a water sample and get a second, even third opinion/verification)

Just tested salinity. Confirming 1.026.

I am going to move the frag slightly higher on the rockscape where it will get more light and flow.

Thank you!!

This has been a sign of starvation for me in the past. Also a possibility your alkalinity might be too high for your setup.

@Dugless thank you this is very helpful.

When this has occurred for you, did the frags reverse? Was there anything you think that helped?

This started in a lower nutrient coral QT tank. Which the frag was in for 4-5 days. The display is higher nutrient.

@Chaswood79 im very happy as the tank is turning a corner. Corals are encrusting increasingly and alk consumption is going up. Update coming in the next week or so. I’ll let ya know :)

I believe that coral has a very good chance of making a full recovery. Look forward to your update.
