Encrusting montipora: bulldozers?

I would go with something else like a birdsnest or something can can take up some space since not much will be around it. If you like Montis then keep the on their own rock in the corners or front like stated above and you will be able to enjoy them much more. They color a lot nicer if right out in the light ime, not hidden under corals and on a big slope.

This is the other half of the rockscape - I’m planning an acropora, pocillipora forest on top of the plate, then a bunch of micromussa on that lower set of rocks that wrap up and around the column.

I think I’m going to find a decent long, 4-5” wide flattish rock to put the montipora on and have it on the sand front and center.

Thanks

It's a bit of work ut u can periodically place a 2 inch wide epoxy cover o the rock where they're spreading, peel it off in few weeks and add another. U get easy frags in return for the pain off applying the epoxy sheet.

Im doing the same thing actually.

Also, my rainbow Monti is growing right next to a hammer, but every time it gets close the hammer kills whatever it can reach.

And I've had a sunset monti that has grown maybe 2 inches in the last 3 years I've had it. Nice and colored up, all my other corals grow quite well, just the encrusting monti does not grow very fast.

On the other hand my plating monti I frag a dinner plate off every couple months.

Like jb waterweld epoxy? So, you just don’t cram it into the rock so it stays kinda firmly attached but not into the crevices, and just pop it off when it grows over?

Sounds like a neat trick, but might be a total pain in the butt.

Any reefsafe epoxy, yes simply spread over rock and secure only enough to not detach and dont squeeze in crevices, so it's easy to peel off.

Will bump this thread so to save opening a new one. I've got a main rock of mine thats getting encrusted quite well by jf fruity pebbles. I also have an appleberry, jedi mind trick and altered ego up there. Should I move those 3 away from the fruity pebbles or let all 4 of them encrust it together?

Not sure if an encruster vs encruster will come out neutral and stop growing at the edges or if the faster grower will still take over the slower growing encrusting montis?

I’ve got an encrusting monti in the middle of a rock with corals around it. It would overflow them all quickly. I put it on here long tome ago before I knew anything. Never would again. What I did was to use some of that 2 part putty stuff that you can use to cement corals in. Forget who makes it. Mix two putty and turns purple stuff. I found that a kind of thick outer ring looks ugly but when the encruster grows over it it’s really easy to cut that section off since it’s really hard to remove a piece from a rock with tons of crevices. It’s a smooth surface and if I really needed to this stuff doesn’t attach well to the rock so I can just slice the monti and pull all the hardened putty off with the monti on it and then put more back and do it again in a few months. It’s annoying and doesn’t look awesome but works for me. Gonna cut this piece off pretty soon in the pic.
