Bulgoggi is solid too. I always recommend that first to anyone trying Korean food for the first time. It's delicious stuff that's very well suited for American pallets.
 
Here's a decent recipe for them. Only difference is that we don't marinate the pork belly, and I smoke it until it's crispy, then you use sesame seed oil with salt and pepper in it for dipping.

A buddy of mine just got a black tang today from a place I'd never heard of here in Houston. Apparently, they've been in business for 20 years and somehow I missed them. He said they quarantine all their fish, which sounds promising. I'll have to check them out soon.
