One of the best indicators of a zoa's light demand is the diameter of the polyp and length of the stalk.

A narrow polyp and virtually no stalk extension? Too much light. It's trying to physically decrease its size and move farther away. This is the coral telling you it's too much.

A very wide polyp and long stalk? Not enough light. The coral is physically moving closer to the light and stretching the polyp to grab as much light as it can.
