One of the more interesting aspects of my new Apex controller is the ability to look at the energy consumption of my tank. What's fascinating to me is that my ENTIRE system currently uses less wattage than TWO of my metal halide lamps on my 125g setup from 2005.
I vividly remember the hobby at that time, and LED lights were barely....barely....being discussed in reefing. And all of those discussions were "There's no way LED's will be able to generate enough light!".
Not only are we able to save energy with LED lighting, but the pumps and wavemakers are so much better today than 15 years ago.
Since I don't currently have a chiller, I don't know if they've been improved for energy consumption lately.
What are you thoughts about energy usage and reefing?
