What are some tips/tricks that should be used when planning the aquascape to accommodate an engineered goby? Would love to add one on my next upgrade

Make sure your base rocks are on the bottom of the tank not on sandso if it burrows beneath there is no tumble. If you put down some PVC piping it will love that and it may reduce the burrowing.

Put it under the rocks or just under the sand? What size PVC do you think?

Under the sand and then I use 45 degree elbows at the end. 1” is what they seem to like most.
Great idea! Thank you! Do you have any pictures of how you laid it out before you added the sand?

All written above including PVC pipes (I made mine out of limestone...), but pipes will be just temporary solutions...
When they grow to their full size of 12"-15" they will build huge mountains anyway...

Ive got a 10 inch one in my tank. I made sure my rocks were secure and had big base rocks on the glass then sand. Mine caused a rock slide once, but she never harms corals. She loves her sand, and she will take frag plugs and shells to construct her home so have extra shells or she uses hermits!! One of my favorite fish
