Ok. So it isn't living, and the title might be slightly misleading hahaha.

I gave away some live rock from my previous tank, and the guy offered some dry rock in trade. Why not? It can sit in my storage cabinet.

Well, along with some normal chunks, he gave me this thing.

It is extremely light for its size. MAYBE 2 pounds, tops.
Definitely some sort of skeleton.

Fairly dense and hard, doesn't give like a sponge or something like that, but will break very easily and crumble.

Seems like it would make a great rock. Not sure about in the display (doesn't really fit with my aquascape), but as a pod-factory etc.

However, and here is the big concern, ALL of the pieces he gave me reek of cigarette smoke. Strong.

So, bleach, RO, repeat? Scrap it all? Any input is appreciated!

Mods, sorry if this is in the wrong spot.
 
Personally for the investment of time and money we put into our systems I would scrap it.
