well let me start by sayin im only 19 and ive been into reef tanks since 17 and i have a 75 gallon mini reef in progress (not enough money lol) but im running 2 H.O.T magnum with bio wheels 1- running carbon 1- micro filter and 2 maxi jet powerheads is this ok for now or is this why i have problems with slim alge

get rid of the biowheels and the micro filter. they are probably adding to your problems. where are your nitrates at?

carbon is ok to run, also are you running a skimmer?

lastly, 2 maxijets is not nearly enough flow for a 75g tank.

so i should set up the other with carbon as well and i have finally located 2 reef only stores instead of pet care ware house lol what are some suggestions on filtrtion ? and water movement. and do you think that could be the cause of the slime alge

o and a sea clone for 100 gal but saving for allot better upgrade just havent made up my mind yet on what i want to do

any chance you can take some pictures and post them here so we can get some idea of what we are dealing with?

if you have 2 hang on the back filters, make sure to take the biowheel part off both of them. and what i would do, it keep carbon in 1 of them, and turn the other into a refugium and grow cheato under a small PC light.

reef tanks don't need "filtration" in the normal sense like freshwater tanks do. biowheels and filter cloths only tend to increase nitrate levels in saltwater tanks, thus are a bad idea.

all you should need for filtration is live rock, a skimmer, and grow cheato for nutrient export.

as far as water movement in a 75g.....i think a good start would be putting a MJ 1200 in each corner of the tank. thats probably the cheapest route for now.

sea clones are the worst possible skimmer out there. try to save up for at least coralife super skimmer. thats probably the cheapest yet most effective route.

also, pet stores are notoriously bad for giving bad advice. what test kits do you currently have? what about fish?

ok im working on geting pictures of everything im still new to the site and how would i go about turning the hang on filter into a refgium? and i know that seaclone is horrible and im about to take the bio wheel off do you thiink it would be ok just to unplug it and leave the whole unplugged for more surface movent (its fully submerged.

that is a lot of big fish that eat a lot, you're likely going to have a hard time having a reef in a tank with all those fish.

its been doing ok for the most part they normally wipe out the feeder fish and i remove straglers but i have consider slimming down but the seem to do fine with the corals i have now

The grouper needs to go, gets way to big and nasty for a reef tank, plus will eat everything it can get in its mouth. The lion depends on what kind, if its a dwarf it will be ok. Also, AquaC Remora skimmers are excellent skimmers and cost under $200.

yeah im trying to find a good home for the grouper but he is like 2 1/2 inch maybe 3 easy. and i will look into those skimmers. im starting my rebuilds i got rish of my fresh water waste of a tank lol and im trying to sell a 14 gal bio cube and im putting the money into the 75g and soon hopefully get pic after the rebuild
