I’ve been in the hobby for 16 years and have seen or gone through most of the common problems, always finding a solution for most of them. This simple problem is kicking my butt! MICRO BUBBLES!

I have an 81g EXT Fiji cube tank, Trigger Triton 26 sump, Reef octo various 8 pump (Set to 2 out of 5), and aquamaxx skimmer. Set up is about 10 months old. The bubbles originate from the first chamber where the water enters the filter socks. Even with out the skimmer running I have micro bubbles. I have tried adding three different filter media’s to the last bubble trap baffles with no luck. I have tried slowing my pump down to the slowest setting , this helps but I still have bubbles and sacrifice flow which I don’t Like.

I am starting to think I need to some how add more baffles / bubble traps at the end or sell this sump and get a custom sump with more baffles. That being said, almost all the production sumps out there have the same or similar baffle set ups.

Any other ideas are greatly appreciated!

What kind of filter socks are you using? I can see bubbles getting through a mesh sock, but not the heavier material socks.

Maybe you could try doubling up a pair filter socks (one inside another). It's worth a try?

I’ve used both mesh and felt socks. Felt I’d a little better but still there. I think when I use felt most of my bubbles then come from the skimmer and my frag tank overflow.
