I had an Epaulette Shark tank a few months ago that cracked on me:tsk:, but I donated her to Central Campus High School in Des Moines (the super awesome aquarium science program at MACNA if you went). She is in their shark system now and is laying eggs! :xd: I've been looking for a male to send their way, and have been watching the LA divers den for a while now and still haven't found one. Does anyone know where I can find a large male epaulette?

there is a guy on ebay selling a baby epaulette shark not sure of its sex though. he is out of florida

Since you're donating this to a school, I think I would put in a call to some importers/wholesalers, often times they will help out in situations like this just for the positive publicity and press, despite you not being a store front. At the very least if you locate one at a wholesaler you can reach out to a an e-tailer or store front near you who has wholesale business license and have them order the animal for you. I would start with the one's on the West Coast, there are about 5-6 of them within 10 minutes of LAX.

That's an awesome idea! Thanks for the input. I'll give that a shot.

Sweet, let us know how it works out I'm sure the students and teacher will be thrilled. I will have to keep an eye out on this program I did not attend MACNA last two years.

Great idea Adam, I would like to narrow it down and suggest first contacting Quality Marine. I have gone to all the wholesalers in LA and QM to me was hands down the best and they are known for getting involved with things of this nature. I honestly have never heard of any other wholesaler in LA doing things like this for the publicity so I think it would be a harder sell with the rest.

Quality Marine makes a rare move to auction limited supply of Resplendent Cherubfish

There really was no push to advertise from an importers perspective livestock wise but as the consumer base becomes more educated and people want to know, not only where and when their livestock was captured, but how...they've been sort of pushed in that direction - starting with unsurprisingly social media. For example QM or SDC advertises how well their livestock is taken care, and what type of animals they have access to and the next time you go to your LFS you see a QR code (when scanned with a smart phone gives you all of the information about the animal) consumers will put pressure on their retailers to go to specific wholesalers for them. So in essence you have the customers putting more pressure on their middle man to go the supplier they prefer. Not a bad business decision and better for the hobby if it makes retailers/importers take better care of livestock in the chain of custody and import responsible/sustainable livestock. Of course I only know this because I work for an exporter/importer lol, but part of my speaking/writing series aims to educate hobbyists about collection, so they understand why/how they see certain animals vs others.
