I use the jb water weld that's sold at home depot. I have read that if they say it can be used with potable water then it's safe. If you don't feel like taking a chance you can go back and get the jb weld

If it were me I'd return it and see if you can get the jb weld, I can tell you first hand that it's safe. They have it it in the sink/toilet plumbing aisle. Also I use the loctite gel super glue with the putty when I'm attaching frag plugs underwater, it holds well.
