Just wondering if anyone uses just epsom for there mag. Also how many of you mix mag. Cloride with it for mag. And last, does anyone know the effects of too much sulfide from epsom salt. Thanks for any replys.

been using Epsom with MagFlake for over a year for my mag. no ill affect that i know of. I use 1/5-1/3 cup epsom to 1 cup magflake.

I used it to fight bropsis at one point. It would have been way too expensive to raise my mag that high with a "Reef Product". Worked for me. The best thing to do would be to start using a high mag salt such as H2ocean. I don't have to dose any mag. My mag is consistently 1380.

I raised my mag from 700-800 to 1300 with several pounds of epsom salts.

every seemed fine but I didn't have sps corals in the tank either.

I have since found a source for 50 pounds bags of magnesium chloride and now use the mixture of mag clhoride and mag sulfide.

Thanks all. Beaslbob, do you get it locally or order it? I don't know if I can get it here in Louisiana.

But you probably meant the magnesium chloride.:xd:

I got a 50 pound bag for $30 or so from a local industrial chemical supplier (Brentagg). They had to truck it in but did not charge for shipping.

Epsom salt is only 1/2 of the balanced magnesium recipe.
www.bulkreefsupply.com sells both halves or you can just get the magnesium chloride from them and use Epsom salts for the other half.
